Teacher Tips for This Project

The following are possible suggestions to ensure that the research module runs smoothly.

  • This research module will take approximately 2-3 weeks.  Plan on spending at least two weeks in the computer lab gathering, sifting, sorting information and creating the PowerPoint presentation.
  • Students should complete this project in groups of 2-3.
  • It is highly recommended to have a cart of books and/or encyclopedias, which support the research.
  • Assist students in the planning step as they brainstorm categories of information to research.  Required categories are Geography, Food, Shelter, and Religious Customs.  Others might include Politics (relation to other tribes or groups), Leadership & government, Climate, Clothing, Roles within the Community, Arts & Crafts
  • The web used in the Planning step may be modified or replaced by another graphic organizer of your choice.
  • You may wish to use the Teacher Checklist page to keep track of groups as they complete steps in the project.  You may save a copy with your personal files.
  • Be sure to instruct students on how to keep track of the resources used to find information. Many helpful documents and websites are found on the Citing Your Sources page.
