Student Expectations

Behavior on the bus: We follow our school and district discipline processes if a student’s behavior affects anyone’s safety on the bus. Here are some helpful tools to show how our bus and school staff communicate how to be safe and principled, respectful and caring, and responsible on the school bus, just like at school.

Waiting for the bus
  • Stay out of road and safe distance from roadway
  • Wait to approach bus until it is stopped, doors are open and driver signals 
  • Be alert to your surroundings
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to self
  • Respect private and public property

  • Be on time (5 minutes before pick up)
  • Stay in designated area and visible to driver
Entering the bus
  • Wait your turn
  • Use handrail
  • One person on the steps at a time
  • Leave space between you and person in front
  • Keep voices down use level 1 voice
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to self
  • Be kind - use kind words
  • Sit quickly and clear the aisle
  • Backpack off and in lap
  • Be courteous
Riding the bus
  • Stay in your seat while bus is moving
  • Face forward in seat
  • No eating or drinking
  • Keep hands and feet to yourself
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to self
  • Use kind words and quiet voices (level 1)
  • Use appropriate language and topics
  • Keep food and drinks in backpack
  • Backpack off and in your lap
Exiting the bus
  • Stay seated until door opens
  • Exit single file
  • Hold the handrail
  • If crossing, wait for the driver's instruction and cross in front of the bus
  • Be aware of surroundings and walk away from area of bus
  • Leave space between you and person in front
  • Keep aisle clear
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to self
  • Respect private and public property
  • Be prepared for your stop
  • Take all personal belongings off bus
Evacuation
  • Stay quiet
  • Listen
  • Follow driver direction
  • Leave all belongings on bus
  • Assist others as needed
  • Stay calm throughout process
  • Exit quickly and safely (one row at a time)
