BPS middle school technology students excel at the state-level

Middle school students from Shuksan and Whatcom competed at the state-level Technology Student Association competition where nearly 2400 students across Washington participated in 2026. Results from the conference are here.

"Whatcom students were all excellent representatives of their school and district," STEAM/CTE teacher Kristen Schlegel said. "Every Whatcom student competed in competitive events, acted with responsibility and maturity and treated others with kindness," she continued. "The work they do to get to state takes a great deal of tenacity."

Likewise, Jennifer Hento, Shuksan's STEM/CTE teacher and advisor to the school's TSA & Makerspace Club, shared the enthusiasm and developing skills that came from her students.

"We had an amazing time at the TSA state competition this year,"Hento shared. "Our group of students showed the best skills in responsibility, maturity and helpfulness and I am so proud of all of them," she said.
