Openings available in new early childhood education program

Families in Bellingham now have expanded access to preschool for children ages three to five through the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP.)

Operating out of Bellingham Public Schools, ECEAP is a high-quality program taught by certified teachers and operating on the same schedule as district schools. The program supports families with low incomes by providing free early childhood education, health screenings, family support services, and a strong foundation for kindergarten readiness. The program is running out of the Early Learning Center in the new District Office at 1985 Barkley Boulevard and offers a research-based approach focusing on children's social, emotional and cognitive development.

“We are thrilled to have opened our Early Learning Center in Bellingham Public Schools this fall,” Arionda Feeney, Assistant Superintendent in Teaching and Learning shared. “This early learning program will not only offer a full curriculum geared to our youngest learners,” she continued, “it will also offer wraparound services to families who may need additional community support.”

“Our teachers and staff are excited to welcome you through their doors!”

Program highlights include:

  • Free preschool that encourages curiosity, exploration and a love of learning taught by certified teachers; foundational skills in literacy, math and social emotional learning ensure children are prepared to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.
  • Comprehensive health and family services such as health screenings, developmental assessments and referrals to community services; and
  • Individualized support from district specialists to tailor community resources in the pursuit of early learning success.
