Five things to know about our levies, watch video
A Message from the Department of Communications and Community Relations
We want to share some information with staff, families and community members about our upcoming levies. Ballots will be arriving in mailboxes later this week.
We have two levies on the upcoming election ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025.
Five things to know about our levies
- Levies make up at least 25 percent of the cost of educational services in the Bellingham Public Schools not adequately funded by the state.
- Our supplemental operations levy helps pay for teachers, counselors, nurses and other staff. It also helps lowers class size and provides arts, music, athletics and other programs for the whole child.
- Our facilities maintenance levy funds projects that keep schools safe and energy-efficient, including roofs, windows and projects that make schools welcoming and accessible to all. Caring for our facilities today saves money tomorrow, which helps us be good stewards of our community’s assets.
- If approved, the district collects a set amount of money from our community each year. If assessed value goes up across our community, the estimated tax rate decreases. If assessed value increases, the district does not get more money.
- Nearly all of our schools will receive some benefit from the facilities maintenance levy, with the exception of those recently rebuilt or those slated to be replaced soon. See how your school will benefit.
