For the fourth time in just under two years, the Options High School civics class taught by Joe Wooding has invited in the Community Engagement Fellows (CEF), a program nestled within the Center for Community Learning at Western Washington University.
The goals of the CEF cohorts are simple and clear: to learn together, to build relationships and to serve in some way the public, our region and the planet.

Flag football is widely-regarded as the fastest-growing youth sport in the United States, and the scene for the Squalicum High School girls flag football program on Jan. 7 at Everett Memorial Stadium was indicative of the sport’s popular rise.
Squalicum was joined by Ferndale, Monroe and Jackson high schools for flag football games at an event selected as a Seattle Seahawks Girls Flag Takeover.
To support and amplify girls flag football, the Seattle Seahawks visit select high school gamedays with Seahawks talent, fan tents, giveaways and more.

We all remember being asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Before anyone can answer that question with confidence, they must know: how do you know what options are available for me in the world, and how can I be best prepared for a fulfilling path that suits my skills and interests?
Many programs in our schools help students with these questions, showing them both what options are out there in the world for education and career, as well as how to be best prepared for success in their chosen path.

Bellingham High School welcomed state representative Joe Timmons to campus this past fall.
The representative’s visit was part of an initiative to connect our legislators with the schools in their community, learn more about the roles and responsibilities of school administrators and experience the current realities, joys and challenges of what happens in our schools.
Principal Ben Goodwin hosted an action-packed day for Timmons.

Local Lummi/Nooksack artist Jason LaClair and other Lummi special guests attended an all-school assembly in spring 2025 at Sehome High School to unveil a new mural created by LaClair. The mural is now hanging in the school commons.
LaClair was commissioned to create the mural with expressions of spirituality. Each mural section represents a unique part of Coast Salish culture, and working with the school, chose imagery that has unique significance to the school community.
