Shuksan leadership update, August 2025

A Message from Superintendent Greg Baker

Dear Shuksan staff and families,

I am excited to share that Dr. Craig Baldwin has been selected as Shuksan Middle School’s interim principal.

Craig has been the principal of Cordata since 2021. He served as principal of Blaine Elementary School for 11 years and was assistant principal of Madrona K-8 School in Edmonds for five years. Prior to that, he taught grades 4-6 in Lake Stevens and Edmonds.

Craig has a bachelor’s degree in recreation from Central Washington University, a master’s degree in teaching from Whitworth College (now University) and a doctorate in educational leadership from Seattle University. He earned his superintendent certification from Western Washington University in 2017.

Craig has nearly 30 years of experience as both a teacher and administrator. He is a service-oriented leader that is dedicated to supporting all students and staff. He believes in building trusting relationships and providing opportunities for all students to discover and develop their passions. Craig and his wife live in Bellingham and have children who attend our schools, and his wife works as a teacher in our district. In April 2025, Craig received recognition in our annual Promise Awards and was named co-leader of the year with Eva Chazo.

I am sure Craig will be reaching out soon to connect with each of you.

I will use the word “interim” in this announcement only to signal flexibility, and that things may change as we look to the following year. Know that we assess our leaders throughout the school year, but from here on out, we’ll use the term principal.

Thank you to those of you who served on our interview committee and offered feedback on the qualities you look for in a principal to serve Shuksan. After going through our process, we are confident and excited for Craig to lead Shuksan!

Greg Baker
