Behavior expectations: Reminders for spectators of high school sports
-
The safety of our students and staff, and security of our schools and public events are our collective responsibility.
-
We use The Bellingham Promise and the WIAA code of conduct and sportsmanship guidelines to guide our expectations at athletic events at our schools.
-
Sportsmanship encompasses a passionate community built by athletes, students, and spectators that prioritizes respect and brings positivity to the game. This definition was developed by BPS students, along with fellow high school athletes across the conference.
-
Games can be emotional events for all involved. It is not appropriate to engage in aggressive behavior and/or confront or yell at coaches, players, officials or other spectators.
-
We protect the rights of our staff, including coaching staff, to work free from bullying, intimidation and harassment. Our coaches make real-time decisions based on their judgement of what is best for the team and the student athletes.
