AVID
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It helps all students get ready for college and careers by providing great teaching with strong support. Teachers use AVID strategies to engage students in writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR). Schools use the AVID framework to enhance instruction, leadership, systems, and culture. The goal is to prepare students for a "range of educational and career options to support a diversity of life choices" and "achieve a fulfilling and productive life."
The AVID Elective is offered to students in middle and high school. Students in the AVID Elective develop intentional habits, social intelligence, and the ability to critically and creatively think, communicate, and collaborate. They also form strong relationships and a sense of community. AVID Elective students benefit from scaffolded support and structure to reach their full potential.
Vision Statement: AVID envisions a world where all students are prepared for a range of educational and career options that support a diversity of life choices. By fostering a culture of excellence in teaching and learning through writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR), AVID empowers students to achieve fulfilling and productive lives.
Purpose Statement: Through intentional teaching strategies, leadership development, and a strong support system, AVID prepares students for a diverse range of educational and career opportunities. By enhancing instruction, systems, and school culture, AVID inspires students to think critically and creatively, communicate effectively, collaborate meaningfully, and build strong relationships. The AVID Elective provides middle and high school students with the tools, habits, and sense of community needed to succeed and lead fulfilling, productive lives.
AVID connects directly to our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs by helping students build the skills, confidence, and planning tools they need for their High School and Beyond Plan, post-secondary education, and future careers.
